In this dog-eat-dog world, sometimes it seems logical just to be one. Pets are certainly the pampered lot this holiday season and retailers are laughing all the way to the bank. A pet these days is not just some stray you picked up because you felt sorry for it, or just as a playmate to keep your kid occupied while you go about your chores. Pets today are as much a part of a household as any child. In fact many career oriented couples who are not too keen on starting a family or are not prepared to take on the responsibility of bringing up a child, opt to take a pet home. You still have someone to come home to and someone to love without feeling the burden of child rearing.
Going by the retail sales trends this holiday season, pets are certainly scoring over children. Yes, pet owners are buying gifts for their pets. While it may not be the latest Barbie or a remote controlled toy Ferrari, the range available for pets would not doubt make one wish they could switch places with these pampered pets. Pets are being gifted hydro massages and acupressure sessions with experienced pet masseuses at speciality pet spas. They are moving around in style in comfortable carriers with warmers built in to keep them warm and cosy in the winter. They are being dressed in trendy clothing and designer jewellery and that’s not all. Imagination seems to be the only limitation as designers are willing to put together anything the pet owner desires for his or her pet, at a price the latter would not mind spending.
The range in pet gifts is varied and even those who cannot afford designer clothing and jewellery are picking up gifts in keeping with their financial capabilities. Pets after all are almost as good as family members in many households.
