There is an emotional attachment that forms between pets and their owners. And because pets have a much shorter lifespan than human beings, the owner often has to go through the stress of having to see the beloved pet decline with age. Somehow, I always felt that the happy state of companionship would endure for years to come without any incident to mar the happy cohabitation. The other day I was surfing for sash windows surrey and came across a link that gave me an insight to what to expect in the coming years.

Pets often face the problem of being afflicted with arthritis. People often write off the symptoms to a variety of reasons. But if addressed from the onset, it makes life a lot easier for the pet as well as the owner. Finding it hard to move, even though trained not to, they often defecate inside the house. Or they may sleep longer than usual. Now cats tend to sleep a lot. So in this case you may need to look for other sign like yowling. This is an indication that the pet is going deaf. Other visible signs include an enlarged abdomen, changes in appetite, a decrease in energy and persistent coughing or irritation when eyesight is failing.

In fact, all the illnesses that plague human beings afflict pets too. The best thing to do is to opt for a thorough geriatric check-up twice a year. If the pet has some previous history of illness, request for a detailed examination in that area. Getting a baseline blood panel once the pet turns 7 or 8 gives you a yardstick to compare any change as it ages. Starting this well ahead of time ensures that your beloved pet can live much longer in as much of ease as possible, increasing your happiness, as well as the pets.

It is surprising how people make fundamental mistakes when choosing pets despite knowing that such a decision is no different than having a decision to start a family by having own children. It is one thing to plan on window shopping in the mall only to be so enamored by a set of wooden bifold doors that you whip out your credit card and immediately purchase the same. It is a completely different thing to adopt the same approach with pets.

Remember, you can dispose the doors if you do not appreciate the same after a day or two. However, disposing of a pet is not going to be as simple and easy as disposing unwanted furniture. Many persons believe that they simply have to develop the discipline and commitment required to take good care of their new family member. Well, developing the discipline necessary is not as easy as it sounds. However, this only happens to be the easy part.

What about the cash required to maintain your pet properly? Just take a look at the pet industry and you will realize that it is a multibillion dollar industry. You will end up spending got more money than a healthy child if your pet falls ill often. The combination of added stress to earn more money and the lack of information and knowledge about your pet can create a big mess in your house. Simply allocating the task to your child and hoping that he or she would do all that is necessary to take good care of your pet is not going to work.

Hence, never take an impulsive decision as far as purchasing a pet is concerned. In fact, try to delay the decision and defer it consistently. You should reach a point where your family members virtually revolt against you for your persistent efforts to delay the decision. That is when you can be satisfied that you have done all that is necessary to prepare for the presence of a pet animal in your house.

Have you heard of horror stories where families got a pet when they were not prepared for the experience? Such a situation normally turns out to be a traumatic one for the family as well as the pet. The family decides to go in for the pet based on the stubbornness of a single member. The member who really wanted the pet will quickly grow tired of the duties and responsibilities and will start ignoring the animal. That is when the family recognizes that they have a problem on their hands.

After a few half-hearted steps, they decide to dump the pet out in the open and pretend as if the problem never occurred. Well, you can make use of technology to ensure you do not end up behaving like such a family. You can have an electronic pet that is present in your cell phone or your computer. It will behave like a normal pet and will require your time and effort a regular basis. You will be required to feed it very often. You will be required to take it out for an electronic walk. You will even have to take the electronic pet to a virtual vet.

Get you family members to follow this routine for a few weeks and you will automatically find out whether they are up to the task or not. This is an effective solution to find out whether the young family member insisting on the pet is indeed ready for the same or not.

Buying a pet is not a simple decision like purchasing an asset for your home or roller banners for your business. You will be purchasing a living being and will have to perform numerous other activities to ensure it leads a normal and healthy life. Ignoring technology when such solutions exist does not take sense.

Those who have had a dog for years will be well aware of the hazards and pit-falls, of which there are many. But one particular one which doesn’t tend to crop up in conversation with those who are experienced is that of dogs escaping. This is because they are well-versed in the art of keeping a dog secured. Yet sadly, for the new dog owner things can turn out very differently. Every single year dogs escape from the house or the garden and are never found again. The sad truth is that there are many places in the near vicinity for a dog to get lost in, and they are not always found before it is too late.

Take this example: a friend of mine – a new dog owner – recently received an email from a skip company Surrey , which rents out mini skips, midi skips and maxi skips (the difference being that the larger ones hold in the region of 100 black bags of waste while the smaller ones hold no more than 30. Now, according to the email, a small dog had been found in the skip, just moments before the skip was due to be emptied onto land-fill. It was a wake-up call for my friend, and instantly she knew how lucky she was…

…you may be certain that your back garden is secure, but are you really sure?

So, how to avoid a dog escaping? Here are a few wise words of advice, inspired by my friend (who isn’t me, by the way!):

1) Close all windows: in the Summer it may be tempting to leave the larger windows open, but this is a mistake. Remember that dogs have a fantastic sense of smell, and most small dogs can squeeze through amazingly small gaps. Get a fan if you are worried, as this is a much better alternative!

 2) Be sure to seal your back garden up: you may be certain that your back garden is secure, but are you really sure? Examine the area as if you were a persistent little thing, eager to escape and get out into the exciting world beyond Check fence panels, and if the dog’s breed is known for jumping, consider if they might be able to leap themselves free.

3) Last but not least, you’d be surprised how ingenious dog can be: make sure that doors are locked in you have a big dog, because while dogs may not have evolved to the point where they can pick locks, some can certainly make a play for a door handle, heavy or not!

If you see any of the above mentioned symptoms with your puppy then get it checked with a veterinarian right away. Most likely the vet is going to ask you for some fecal samples to investigate the problem. In case if it does not prove the presence of the parasite then a vet could also ask you for some blood samples which is a more stronger indicative. Once the vet is able to decide the kind of worms present in your puppy, then you will receive the medication needed to de-worm the puppy. These medications are very important and will clean your puppy from any worms. Just as the saying says prevention is better than cure, always try and take preventive methods to protect your puppy from getting infected again. As a good practice veterinarians advice to give your puppy by default de-worming medication 6 weeks after they are born.

Since dogs live in close proximity with people, it is easy to diagnose the symptoms, and to start treatment as early as possible. Before consulting the vet you may try some home remedies too. If you do not know how to get rid of dog’s cold at home, then read on.

To make matters easy, like calling Apple Mac support London, generally what works for people suffering from a cold, works well for dogs too. Try giving your dog a steam treatment. Inside a closed bathroom, keep the hot water running in the bath till the room is filled with steam. Let the dog spend at least a quarter of an hour in that room to get relief from chest congestion.

Warm chicken broth or beef broth works well in the treatment of a dog’s cold. If he suffers from dehydration, some electrolyte powder should be mixed with its drinking water.

Vitamins can improve its immune system and appetite, so it is a good idea to add vitamins A, C, B complex and E to its diet.

Whenever your dog suffers more severe bouts of coughing it is advised that a cough suppressant is given to relieve the symptom.

I was installing online recruitment software at the office recently when one of my co-workers asked me if I knew the best diabetic food for dogs. Since I am a pet lover I checked it out and found out the following.

Now just in case you did not know, dogs too can get diabetes just like us humans. There are three types of diabetes found in dogs – type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. The first type is due to the lack of antidiuretic hormone, type 2 is due to the lack of insulin, and gestational diabetes is seen only in female dogs during pregnancy.

Diabetes caused due to reduced insulin could be either congenital or due to lifestyle changes. This can be controlled with the help of foods.

Before man domesticated dogs they used to eat raw meat, and this is their normal food. Avoid processed dog food which could be rich in carbohydrates, and substitute with sardines and plain cooked skinless chicken and lean meat.

Dry dog food has very little moisture content and could not be good for the dog’s kidney. So these should be given in combination with moist protein rich food.

Choose foods that are low in sodium content and high in protein, preferably organic. Dogs with diabetes could have impaired liver function too, and the additives of processed food might affect their liver.

The feeding time should be changed to 2-4 small meals every day, with a diet that includes brown rice and oats, which are good sources of fiber.

While searching through primary teaching jobs online with a teacher friend of mine she stated that she is considering spaying her cat. She showed me some literature of this procedure so here is a bit of what I learnt.

Spaying of cats can be defined as a surgical procedure used in sterilizing female cats, in other words it is a procedure that is used to make them incapable of conception. The procedure usually involves an Ovariohysterectomy which is the removal of the ovaries and the uterus of the animal.

Some people are against spaying cats as well as other animals, however, the advantages of spaying a cat are more that its disadvantages.

Spaying will greatly reduce the likelihood of pregnancy. The fact is that one cat that is not spayed could contribute ad infinitum to the total population of cats in a neighborhood.

Once spaying is done your cat will more than likely become much calmer. Their drive to mate is reduced your cat will not likely respond to mating calls nor seek out mates. They will also not be attracting any mates. They become more affectionate and gentle with you.

Your cat will be much healthier when spaying is done. It seems that cats that are spayed have far fewer health issues to contend with. You will not have to worry about certain health problems such as uterine infections.

One of the main problems of spaying is that many cats become over weight after spaying.

Also sterilization is so permanent and cannot be reversed. </SP

Throughout the ages dogs have become one of the most cherished and beloved family pets. However, as all pet lovers know their life spans are much too short in comparison to our human lives. Most large breed dogs only have a life span of 7-10 years (some, like Great Danes have an even shorter span) while smaller breeds (like Chihuahuas’) can live up to 17 years. Some signs that your dog has reached his/her “senior years” are, a reduction in energy level, sleeping more than usual, a decrease in appetite, stiffness in the joints when walking or trying to get up and for some dogs even hearing or vision as well as weight loss. (Please note that some of these signs can be seen in younger dogs which can signal a serious condition and they should be seen by a vet immediately). “Let sleeping dogs lie” is an old saying that holds truth, especially for your older dog. Sleep helps the dogs'body to recuperate and stay healthy. Exercise is important for dogs at any age, but when your canine pal gets on in years they may need less than when they were young. Taking a few short walks everyday will benefit them as much as one long power walk. If your older dog is having issues eating, than it may be time to change how and what they eat. Feeding 2 -3 smaller meals a day along with adding some warm water to dry, crunch food may make it easier for your dog to eat. Dogs that have hip and joint problems can benefit by a daily aspirin regimen as well as a plush soft place to relax. Dog beds with ample cushioning can help to alleviate the pain of joint stiffness. For dogs that lose vision or hearing it becomes an issue of safety. A dog that cannot hear or see should NEVER be left out alone whether tied on a run or even in a fenced yard. Taking your dog out on a leash it highly recommended if they lose either function. Whatever the age, caring for your aging canine companion can be difficult, heartbreaking and even expensive however; email marketing for pet products and medications has helped to lower the cost of caring for your aging pet. The kindest thing you can do for your aging pet is to provide them comfort and dignity in the” golden years” of their doggie lives.
